FAQs

Answers to some frequently asked questions

What is an international school?

International schools are schools that operate separately from the local school system, whether government or independent. They usually offer the curriculum of a country other than the host country. Students at international schools will sit exams and earn diplomas from authorities outside the host country.

Do I have to already be a resident in the country?

Usually, it is better to not be a resident in the country before you accept a position. Most schools will hire teachers who are outside the country.

How do I get a visa?

In most cases, your resident and/or work visa will be linked to your employment contract. The school should ensure that you have all of the paperwork you need to qualify for the visa, and assist you with information.

What about my family?

Unless your spouse is also employed by the school, it is unlikely that they will be eligible for a work visa through the school. Details would depend on the country. Many schools offer free or reduced tuition for some or all of your children. It differs by school.
